Why Choose United Way?

  • Local – Your gift stays here, improving the quality of life for people in Monroe County.
  • Accountable – Through its unique volunteer allocations process, United Way ensures that Community Impact dollars go to human service programs that are best positioned to meet the needs of the community.
  • Results – Gifts to the Community Impact Fund are invested in programs that get results. Each program that receives funding is evaluated annually on quality of service and effectiveness in achieving positive changes in people’s lives.

Our focus: Education, Income & Health

Targeted Need Areas --

Helping Children Succeed:

Children are better able to achieve success in both the classroom and in life when they enter kindergarten ready to learn and succeed. The United Way supports programs that help end child abuse and neglect, promote early care and education, and provide quality before, during, and after-school activities. It supports mentoring programs to guide youth toward constructive activity and cultivate their community involvement and leadership.

Meeting Basic Needs:

A strong, safe community cares for those in need of life's basic necessities. The United Way supports programs that help individuals and families who are seeking adequate food, shelter, medical care and emergency assistance in their daily lives.

Promoting Self-Sufficiency:

These programs support people in reaching their highest achievable level of independence, developing their skills, and improving their abilities and outlook. Helping families understand and practice sound financial planning is another goal.

Engaging Youth in the Community:

The energy and drive of our community's youth can and should be used to make our community better. Goals include helping youth transition from school to work and helping them to become active participating citizens.
