Day of Caring

Day of Caring is a one-day event for the community to come together to provide hands-on services to the United Way, its partner agencies, and other local nonprofits.

At the end of the day, a thank you picnic was held for everyone who participated at Barley Creek Brewing Co. in Tannersville.

2013 Day of Caring Statistics:

  • 17 Nonprofit agencies assisted
  • More than 55 projects completed
  • 800 plus volunteer hours with a cash value of $18,000

2013 Day of Caring Projects:

Brodhead Watershed Association                    

  • Clean up three properties in Monroe County
  • Removed 3,260 pounds of trash            

Spruce Lake Retreat                    

  • Wood hauled and stacked                
  • Wood split                
  • Brush hauled                
  • Windows cleaned on several buildings and misc. cleaning                
  • Lodge kitchens cleaned and inventoried                
  • 19 volunteers worked for 6 hours                 
  • Grand total of 104 hours of volunteer labor donated            

 Meals on Wheels                    

  • Volunteers delivered 176 meals                 
  • Envelopes that needed to be labeled and stuffed                 

Equi-librium                     

  • 30 windows were  cleaned                
  • The barns were swept free of cob webs              
  • 20  stall mats were removed, cleaned and stacked          
  • The children's class room was cleaned, swept and reorganized
  • The game room was reorganized and all games were cleaned               
  • Two storage areas were cleaned out and reorganized
  • Volunteers repaired  our weed trimmer and then proceeded to trim the weeds around the stable area                

Growing Place Infant and Toddler Center

  • Cleaned windows inside                    
  • Washed curtains and hung them                    
  • Some organizing work                     
  • Trimming of shrubs                    

Pocono Family YMCA                        

  • 6 volunteers
  • Cleaned playground                    
  • Pressure-washed the floor and wall                    
  • Cleaned and disinfected all the playground equipment and mats                    
  • Learning and Caring classrooms and  Curious Minds Preschool
  • Volunteers helped with their lessons and read stories                                                                  
  • Women's Resources                         
  • Stained 2 gazebos                    
  • Washed about 34 windows                    
  • Power washed 3 decks                    
  • Weeded and mulched 10 trees                    
  • Washed walls and wood works in 9 rooms                    
  • Moved book cases and books from one building to another
  • Cleaned and organized a basement                

The Growing Place At Chestnut Hill Elementary school                        

  • Sorted and cleaned up a storage area                     
  • All items were labeled                    
  • New storage shelving was assembled                    
  • Cleaned out the toy shed and organized the materials also labeling each category                    
  • Put shelves together for the office                     
  • Furniture moved for a training room                
  • Sorted recycling and shredded paper
